Felipe is a House/Techno DJ/beat-maker. He was born in 1985 in Bogota, a city located at the heart of the Colombian Andes Cordillera. His Phillip O project, under which he DJ’d the most from the beginning of his career, saw him performing in several countries in Latin America, and a one time performance in France, as well as releasing music in various record labels from around the world.
His humble beginnings were with a tape recorder and a primitive DJ software, recording his first mixes for himself (to be able to enjoy his favorite tracks on the go). Electronic music was a fascination that took hold several years earlier, long before the first mixes; the music was an “out-of-this-world” sound to 10 year old Felipe, whose first contact with the sound happened when he got, in the mid 90’s, a tape that contained Dance music from Europe. This sort of “late” first encounter with repetitive machine-generated music spawned a massive interest in all things related, and naturally, it was not long before the journey took him through diverse corners of the genre, tasting everything he could find through the spectrum: from Ambient and ‘Electronica’ all the way to Jungle and gabber at the other end… But it was Techno, House and Electro which caused the strongest impact, and would become the guidelines of his artistic development.
He started DJing vinyl records in Bogota, at the age of 15, and out of luck, managed some slots at a few clubs before turning 18. At the time, finding music was no easy feat in Bogota; not many record stores and the few ones available charged prices way higher than you would get in stores in Europe or North America. Upon turning 18 years old (and spending way too much time at his favorite shop) he was hired at ‘Chopin Haguen Records’ in Bogota, run by DJ Fruto. This, allowed Felipe to meet just about everyone in the local Scene, and opened the doors to perform at some of the best clubs in the country at the time (Cinema, Bogota / Cha Cha, Bogota)
Around that period, Felipe and his friend Miguel Espinosa, also known as Spin, decided to start a DJ duo (Spin & Phillip O) in addition to their solo projects, getting a good overall reception in clubs locally and across the country.
In the year 2006 Felipe moved to Costa Rica for a while, and became resident of Vertigo in San Jose de Costa Rica, one of the leading clubs in Central America and, arguably, in all of Latin America.
After returning to Colombia, Felipe began producing music as Phillip O in 2007, and continued performing in clubs, festivals and private parties. He later became resident at Salon Continental, a club that was at the forefront of the Underground movement in the capital.
In 2012 Felipe Played his first ever European date, in the French city of Annecy.
His productions garnered international attention, reaching the Beatport minimal and Electro top 100 and winning two Beatport remix contests and one “DJDownload” remix contest, all of these happening in 2009. Various international DJs from a broad spectrum supported his music released on various labels, the artists who at some point supported and played Phillip’s music on their sets include: Deepchild, Maya Jane Coles, Marco Carola, and Dubfire … to name but a few from a large list of DJs from diverse backgrounds from all over.
in 2017 Felipe continues producing music and quietly releasing some of it independently on Bandcamp under several aliases.
